Houston has a population of 2,099,451 making it the biggest city in Texas. It operates on the CDT time zone. Azama Foundation local address in Houston is 11717 Beamer Road Suite 260 Houston, TX 77089-3130 USA. and an auxiliary office in No 1 Oluma Quarters, Otuo Edo State - Nigeria.

The primary objectives and purposes of this foundation is a nonprofit to empower our students to achieve their educational and career goals through exceptional services and care for the needy.

Each year, the number of students whose lives are affected by dilapidated, crumbling, pot-hole floors, window-less classrooms increases, and our services are needed more and more to provide a safe and sound learning environment. It is our mission as educators to provide a sustainable learning institution to every student attending Azama College in Otuo.

We cannot stand the thought of turning away students who need our services simply because we do not have enough and adequate chairs and desk to accommodate them. In order to fulfill our mission, we need physical upgrade to the institution’s buildings and classrooms. The systemic economic and poverty isolation looms as a huge obstacle for efforts to make a quality education available to Azama students.

Over two thirds of Nigeria’s population resides in rural areas and Otuo is rural. Increasingly, poverty in the country is wearing a rural face. From 28.3 % in 1980, poverty among the rural population grew to 51.4 % in 1985, has since risen to 69.8 % in 2016. Poverty tends to affect boys and girls differently. Girls are generally less educated, more vulnerable, deprived and powerless than their male counterparts.

Otuo people experience insecurity and vulnerability (drought, desertification, flooding, deforestation, diseases, volatile commodity markets etc.); lack of empowerment to influence public policies according to their priorities; and lack of opportunities for income generation and benefits from markets. Access to education, is important in reducing vulnerability and increasing prosperity in our community.

Critical infrastructure services, like water, energy and telecoms come at relatively high costs in rural communities. While scale, density, distance and purchasing power of rural communities tend to increase investment costs, inappropriate government policies also drive the prices for these commodities up in rural areas. Essential expenditures on water and energy often represent a large proportion of the disposal incomes of rural households. While some of these costs are monetized, others are informal and come in form of time and drudgery spent by mostly women and children in collecting water and gathering wood instead of going to school.

Paradoxically, in spite of her enormous natural and human resources, Nigeria's education system is bedeviled with the challenges of gross negligence underfunding and thus poor infrastructure; inadequate classrooms and teaching aids (projectors, computers, libraries, laboratories etc.); paucity of quality teachers/ poor or polluted learning environment. As a result of misdirected attention of stakeholders to issues of quality education for our people and country, our school system is further plagued with numerous social vices like cultism; and infant- hooliganism (a tendency that is similar to child-soldier in war ravaged countries like Somalia, Angola and Libya; as we are told that cult groups exists in junior Secondary schools and Primary schools). These are all the more reason why we need your help.
